Piper Laurie signed a contract with Universal Studios in 1949



Piper Laurie (born Rosetta Jacobs on January 22, 1932) is an American actress of stage and screen known for her roles in the television series Twin Peaks and the films The Hustler, Carrie, and Children of a Lesser God, all of which brought her Academy Award nominations. In 1991, she won a Golden Globe Award for her portrayal of Catherine Martell in Twin Peaks. Laurie was born in Detroit, Michigan, the daughter of Charlotte Sadie (née Alperin) and Alfred Jacobs, a furniture dealer. Her grandparents were Jewish immigrants, from Poland on her father's side and Russia on her mother's. Her father moved the family to Los Angeles, California in 1938. The young Rosetta was red-haired and naturally attractive, but socially hesitant. She attended Hebrew school, and to combat her shyness her parents provided her with weekly elocution lessons; this activity eventually led her to minor roles at nearby Universal Studios. Paula Raymond (November 23, 1924 – December 31, 2003) was an American model and actress. In 1950, she was put under contract by MGM, where she played opposite such leading men as Cary Grant and Dick Powell. Earlier in her career, Raymond acted in film noir thrillers such as City That Never Sleeps (with Gig Young and Marie Windsor), but later in her career she developed a horror film reputation. In 1952, she played the heroine in The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms. In the late 1950s and 1960 Raymond appeared in many television shows and low-budget horror movies including Perry Mason, Hawaiian Eye, 77 Sunset Strip, and Blood of Dracula's Castle with Alexander D'Arcy and John Carradine. She turned down the role of saloon keeper Kitty in the long-running western classic series Gunsmoke (the role went to Amanda Blake). Lesley-Anne Down (born 17 March 1954(1954-03-17)) is a British film and television actress, former model and singer. Down achieved fame as Georgina Worsley in the ITV drama series Upstairs, Downstairs (1973–75). She received further recognition for her performances in the films The Pink Panther Strikes Again (1976), A Little Night Music (1977), The First Great Train Robbery (1979), Hanover Street (1979), Sphinx (1981) and Nomads (1986). She is also known as Madeline Fabray LaMotte Main in miniseries North and South (1985–86), for which she was nominated for Golden Globe Awards in 1986. In 1990, Down played the role Stephanie Rogers in the CBS drama series Dallas. During 1997–99 she played Olivia Blake in the NBC series Sunset Beach. Since March 2003 to February 2012, she has portrayed Jackie Marone Knight in the CBS soap opera The Bold and the Beautiful. Down was born in Wandsworth, London.
